WHAT IS THE LEAST WE CAN BUILD ?
PROJECT
Project: Oncology Hospital – Outpatient Center with addition to a 40 bedded Inpatient Center
Client: Medical Equipment Manufacturer
Project Scope: 55,000 sf Greenfield Prototype Oncology Center –Architecture, Healthcare Planning, Design and Expansion Strategies
Project Duration: N/A
Project Status: Completed
Project Brief: To design an Oncology Outpatient Center complete with OPD components, Radiation Oncology and Medical Oncology, Surgical Oncology along with Inpatient beds and supporting elements. The goal would be to be able to replicate this model with minimum redesigning in most parts of nation. Therefore, designing in flexibility was key to the prototype. The highlights of the project include the following:
-
The primary success of this design lies in the manner in which it allows for ease of expansion by integrating structural elements within the design thus allowing it expand it’s footplate if required without major structural changes therefore minimising disruption to ongoing operations.
-
The size of the plot was maintained as a tight site in order for it to be able to morph in most urban sites.
-
The design incorporated balconies, urban terraces and walkways to allow for the built environment to be a very internal looking one. This strategy is a very effective response that enables the users to be in an environment that is invigorating and engaging while shielding it’s users from having to interact with urban views that are not necessarily the most pleasant ones.
